Work being done at site of future Vaughan hospital

Vaughan is moving ahead with its plans to construct a new hospital for the community and surrounding area.

The city recently announced that it is currently undertaking the improvements to the infrastructure that will serve the site.

New streets are being constructed, and sewers and pipes that will serve as water mains are being laid at the northwest corner of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street. Landscaping is also being undertaken to keep the area looking good. In addition, a new intersection is scheduled to be constructed on Jane Street to allow improved access to the site for the increase in traffic that is expected to occur one the hospital is up and running.

So far this year, the city has achieved several milestones in the process of building the new facility. They, along with Mackenzie Health signed a lease with a term of 99 years for the land where the hospital will be built. They also signed off on a cost sharing agreement between Vaughan and McKenzie Health that will seal a financial agreement between the two that will allow for the initial stages of construction at the site. A business that prints signs can create one that shows an artist’s concept of the completed building. This can be put up at the site so the public knows what is going on.

Three teams have been shortlisted to undergo the design, financing and erecting of the actual building, and the team chosen will be announced this coming spring.
