Woodstock girls’ hockey tournament to celebrate 23rd year

A local sporting institution, the Woodstock Wildcat Girls Hockey Association, will kick off 2019 in style with their twenty-third annual tournament.

The event is set to welcome over 750 girls from across Ontario as well as from across the border in Michigan. With women’s hockey growing in prominence through coverage of the national team and the new CWHL, the event is a great opportunity for girls to develop their skills in Canada’s favourite game.

The tournament will take place on the weekend of January 4-6, with some nearby teams playing matches on the 3rd. Each team is guaranteed four games to hone their skills, and the girls can compete in divisions ranging from Novice B to Senior BB.

The games will take place at the Southwood Civic Centre and Norwich Arenas. In addition to the hockey, there will be a silent auction which aims to raise money to further support girls’ hockey in Woodstock.

The event is expected to be a benefit to local businesses in Woodstock, with many visitors coming in from out of town. When towns expect a boost in the number of visitors, local businesses can use flyer printing to draw in extra custom.

In addition to the tournament, the Wildcats field junior teams in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League throughout the season. They also support local community efforts like the recent Power of Hope pyjama and toy drive.
