Winter Carnival returns to Richmond Hill

January 19, 2018 by

The 50th annual festivities return to Mill Pond early next month, for a three-day event jam-packed with something for everyone.

The carnival begins with a special 50th anniversary edition of the Grand Opening Ceremony. The weekend is loaded with fun filled activities, including old favorites like adult Road Hockey Games, the Big Foot Race, Craft Beer Tasting, and a Fireworks Display over the pond. Several contests run during the carnival, including an Elementary School Hockey Tournament, a Photography Contest, and a Wing Eating Contest. A full list of events, contests, and activities is available on the carnival website.

The carnival would not be possible without its sponsors. There are different levels of support available, ranging from Platinum Sponsor to Carnival Friend. All sponsors are acknowledged as much as possible before the event on print advertisements, and during the event as well. Higher levels of sponsorship may include the company name or logo design used on banners and signs.

Volunteers are also needed for both indoor and outdoor jobs. People must be at least 12 years of age to register. Job availability ranges from face painting, to selling Carnival Buttons and serving candy floss. High school students in Richmond Hill may use their volunteer hours at the carnival towards their required 40 hours of community service.

The 2018 carnival will be held over the weekend of February 2 to 4 at Mill Pond Park, located near the corner of Mill Street and Trench Street in Richmond Hill.
