Whitby invited to learn more about small town governance

Being a citizen comes with its own set of rights and responsibilities, and a Whitby event will help people from the area learn more about how they and their local government can work together to create a great place to live.

Local Government Week will be taking place this October, and the public is encouraged to get out and learn more about their government, how it operates and what role they can play in the good governance of their community. All ages can participate, and there are lots of ways of doing so.

Whitby’s government has issued an invitation to area residents to discover more about how their community is governed by attending a Town Council meeting and following its social media accounts. This way, they will be up to date on what is going on in their community. They can also contact the town’s offices to find out about any volunteer opportunities that are on offer. Special colouring pages have been designed so that young children can get an early start at learning more about the town and how its representatives carry out their civic duties.

To help spread the word about Local Government Week activities, Whitby’s Town Council has designed posters that can be placed throughout the community. A local poster printing company can be called upon to produce items such as these.

This celebration of local government will be held from October 14th to October 20th. The town’s website can be consulted for further details.
