Walkathon to help make lives easier

February 22, 2018 by

The Coldest Night of the Year walkathon is taking place at the end of this month in Delta. This is a fundraising event for Deltassist.

There are two choices for participants; they can choose a 2KM or a 5KM route. Registration is open to all ages, although children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fees are free for children under the age of 11, $25 for those between the ages of 11 and 17 (or $75 in pledges), and $25 for adults over the age of 18 (or $150 in pledges). All participants will receive a free toque, and there will be help along the way from route marshals and other officials.

The day will begin with opening ceremonies and all participants will receive a light, hot meal after the walk.

Deltassist is a local organization that provides help in the form of Christmas hampers and toys, emergency food, and services for seniors such as rides to medical appointments, housekeeping, and yard work.

Stationery printing companies in the Delta area are often asked to provide the pledge forms used by participants in walkathons or marathons.

The Coldest Night of the Year will take place at the New Hope Church in Delta this Saturday, February 24, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. For information, call 1-877-743-3413.
