The Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness is taking place next month in nearby Abbotsford. The event is the main fundraiser of the year for the Fraser Valley Down Syndrome Society.

The goal for this year is to raise $10,000 for Down Syndrome awareness. The participation fee before June 9 for those aged 1 and over is $5 or $10 after; those with Down Syndrome are invited to attend free of charge. Participants can also collect extra pledges from friends, family and co-workers.

The walk will be 2.2km and the route will be around Mill Lake.

In addition, there will be plenty of family-friendly activities taking place before and after the walk. There is set to be bouncy castles, face painting and door prizes. A hot dog lunch is also included. Participants and spectators can also take part in the silent auction. Organizers are still looking for volunteers to help.

The Fraser Valley Down Syndrome Society provides plenty of programs for Down Syndrome people and their families. This includes music and fine motor therapy, help for new parents and subsidies.

No doubt this event will attract many people from the Fraser Valley including from Langley. Local print shops often provide the pledge forms needed for walkathons such as this.

The Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness will be held at Mill Lake in Abbotsford on June 16 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Call 604-853-5563 for more information.
