Vaughan set to welcome Year of the Dog

January 21, 2018 by

Marking the lunar New Year is a popular custom in many Asian countries, and Vaughan will be joining in the spirit of the celebration by hosting an afternoon of themed activities.

This year will be the Year of the Dog in the Chinese calendar, and the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Vaughan has partnered with the city to offer a variety of cultural exhibits. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, and refreshments will be available.

The schedule for the afternoon, which begins at 1:30 pm, will include a traditional eye dotting ceremony and lion dance, and there will be a variety of other activities. The official welcome will take place at 3:00 pm, and both the Mayor and members of the city council will be taking part. Wide format printing can be used to craft banners and other decorations for this type of function.

The organizers of the occasion noted that this is one of the most important dates for the Asian community, and it marks letting go of the past while welcoming the future. The festivities will be taking place in the multipurpose room of Vaughan City Hall, and the event will run until 5:00 pm.

February 4 will be the date for this celebration. Anyone who is interested in finding out more is invited to visit the city’s website.
