Vancouver stages new perspective on Shakespeare

Vancouver will soon be playing host to a performance of the critically acclaimed opera “Macbeth” that offers a unique take on the original story.

The Vancouver Opera will be working with the Third World Bunfight, which is based in South Africa, to bring its interpretation of Macbeth to the stage. Unlike the original, it is set against the backdrop of The Democratic Republic of Congo while still retaining the classic story of tyranny, greed and remorse. The score has been adapted from Verdi’s by Fabrizio Cassol, who is a Belgian composer. Poster printing can be used to create promotional materials that can publicize an event like this throughout the city and the communities that surround it.

The play has only been undertaken in North America two times before, and according to the City of Vancouver website, it has always been well received and has obtained much acclaim wherever it has been performed. The language spoken will be Italian, but it will use subtitles projected above the stage so English speakers will still be able to enjoy it.

Performances of Macbeth will take place at the Vancouver Playhouse from January 16th to January 21st, starting at 7:30 pm. Anyone who would like to find out more about the play or the people who will be bringing it to the stage are invited to visit the opera company’s website.
