Upcoming fair showcases exotic flowers

The 41st annual Orchid Fair is taking place over three days next month in Edmonton, presented by the Orchid Society of Alberta.

Local growers will be on hand to showcase their best orchids and provide information to the public about growing their own. A number of vendors from Canada and other countries will be selling related accessories and plants. The public will be able to purchase a wide variety of orchids.

There is also set to be an art exhibition, a plant competition and repotting demonstrations. Submissions are still being accepted for the art exhibition. There are three categories of artwork accepted: drawings/paintings with eight subcategories, fabrics (four subcategories) and three-dimensional art (two subcategories). All pieces must be matted and feature an orchid in one way or another.

There is also a photography contest that will be judged at the fair. The deadline for submission is March 31. Categories include Fine Art Digital Processing Print and Color Print over 5 x 7-inches. Each photograph must be matted and orchids must be the dominant feature.

Edmonton flyer printing firms are often asked to help advertise public events such as this.

The Orchid Fair will be held in the Moonflower Room at the Enjoy Centre from April 6 to 8. Tickets are $10 each. For more information, visit the official event website.
