Upcoming conference promotes sustainability

The Organic Alberta Conference is taking place in Red Deer next month for three days. It is presented by Organic Alberta.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Sustainability and profits: organic ideas to help you grow’.

A lot of farmers and others are moving towards more environmentally friendly practices and many customers are also demanding it. This conference gives traditional agricultural businesses ideas and tips on how to cater to this sector of the community.

The conference will feature a number of guest speakers and seminars on the categories of Fruit and Veg, Grain and Livestock. Some of the confirmed seminars are on topics such as season extension technology, cultural demographics, the market for organic beef and seed saving.

This is also a trade show where organic agricultural companies can showcase their products and services.

Conference fees are $135 for all three days, $100 for Friday and $80 for Saturday, with a discount available for those under 35. Prices go up after January 19. Childcare is also available for $30 per day and a children’s program for those aged four and up is $100.

This event will likely be widely advertised throughout the province with marketing materials purchased from a Red Deer printing company.

The Organic Alberta Conference will be held at Westerner Park from February 9 to 11, beginning at 8:00 AM each day. For more information, contact Lindsey Oh at 587-521-2400.
