Surrey project to make a beautiful city in the spring

October 25, 2018 by

Bulbs planted in the fall carry the promise of a beautiful spring display, and residents of Surrey who would like to get their hands in the dirt are asked to come out and do their part to keep the city looking beautiful.

Surrey Parks first started its ‘Bulbs for Beauty’ project back in 1995, and since then, hundreds of thousands of bulbs have been installed in plantings throughout the community. Helping hands of all ages are needed, and no experience is necessary to join in the activity.

This volunteer opportunity is being offered on a drop-in basis, and no pre-registration is needed. All the tools and other supplies that are need will be supplied, and snacks will be provided to the planters. The work will be done rain or shine, and three different areas will have bulbs installed. While all ages are welcome, anyone who is 13 or under will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Since this project will go ahead no matter the weather, anyone who plans on coming out is reminded to dress appropriately for the conditions. A letterhead printer will be able to custom design certificates of appreciation that can be distributed to each person who takes part in this sort of community beautification initiative.

This work to make the city come alive with colour in the spring will be taking place on October 25 to 30. The locations, as well as the times when the planting will be done, can be found by visiting the city’s website.
