Surrey initiative seeks support

A Surrey-based scheme that distributes hampers filled with warm winter clothes and toiletries to the homeless residents of the community is taking place, and its organizers are hoping for some helping hands to ensure they get to those who need them.

The call has gone out for volunteers, and those who would like to get involved will be part of an initiative that first began back in 2011. In 2017, 55 people came out to support the project, and the planners are hoping that the turnout this year will be just as big.

Along with getting the word out about the need for volunteers, the organizers of the Whalley Santa Cause are also hoping that the community will be generous in its donations to this event. Sample and travel-sized toiletries such as body wash, combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap. Contributions of gently used winter clothing will also be appreciated.

Those who plan on participating in this activity can register by calling 1 778 233-4344. Stationery printers can craft cards to include in each hamper given out during this sort of initiative and help spread some holiday cheer to people who are experiencing a tough time.

This year’s Whalley Santa Cause will be hitting the streets of Surrey on December 25. The participants will be meeting at Gateway Skytrain Station before they head out.
