Summit set to discuss innovations in agriculture

The Agriculture Innovation Showcase 2.0 is taking place next month in Guelph. It is a presentation of Woolwich Township, and this year’s theme is ‘Innovation for Agriculture’.

Attendees will listen to several expert speakers who will discuss topics of interest to farmers and entrepreneurs. The speakers who will be featured this year are Economic Development and Tourism Officer Rajbir Sian; Rene van Acker, dean of the Ontario Agricultural College; and Gerry Horst from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The day will start off with a networking hot buffet breakfast where guests will have to opportunity to meet with students, as well as their peers.

After breakfast, attendees will split up into groups to take part in several breakout tours. Some of the places that will be visited are Dirksen’s Dairy Farm and Apple Flat Foods, where lunch will be served. After lunch, the Elmira District Secondary School’s robotics team will be demonstrating the robot it is currently building for apple farmers.

It is likely that many of those attending this event will be bringing along their business cards to hand out. The Agriculture Innovation Showcase will be held at the University of Guelph on October 23 from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Tickets are $35 per person.
