Street festival returns for the summer

The 2017 Switch Open Street Sunday’s festival is returning next month to downtown Dartmouth

The festival, which is a presentation of Switch Dartmouth, the Planning and Design Centre and the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, will be held every Sunday during the summer months and will close off the streets on Portland Street at Alderney Drive, to Prince Albert Road at Hawthorne.

This year’s festival will feature three music stages featuring local musicians and bands, with performances by Atlantic Cirque and Samba Nova, and there are set to be several activity zones with family-friendly activities. In addition, a portable skate park will be set up.

Vendors will be spread out all along the streets and will include arts and craft artisans selling their handmade items, local businesses offering general merchandise, and several local community groups that will be providing information about their programs. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

This festival usually attracts approximately 5,000 visitors to the downtown area. Organizers for such events often invest in materials such as flyers to spread the word in the Dartmouth area.

The first Switch Open Street Sunday’s festival for 2017 will take place in downtown Dartmouth on June 4 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. Admission is free of charge. For the most current information about this event, contact Switch Dartmouth at 902-494-8494.
