Stanley Park walk to visit local heron families

June 2, 2018 by

Some of the families of herons who call Stanley Park home are raising their young, and the public has been invited to come out and meet their noisy neighbours.

The participants in the Adopt-A-Nest Program: Herons in the Eve event will be led on a guided dusk walk to the heronry, and along the way, they will have an opportunity to learn more about these large wading birds and the role they play in the local ecosystem. The attendees can ask questions, and see how heron parents care for their chicks and help them get settled down for the night.

Both adults and children alike are welcome to take part in this learning opportunity, and it is being offered free of charge to those who support the Adopt a Heron Nest program. For all others, the tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children, and spots can be reserved ahead of time.

This event has been organized by the Stanley Park ecology society. Flyer printing can be used to create cost effective marketing items for an event like this that can promote it throughout the community.

This evening visit to see heron parents in action has been planned for June 6, and will set out from the Stanley Park Nature House at 6:30 pm. Those who plan to participate are reminded to dress for the occasion and to bring along their binoculars.
