St. Catharines event promises to heat up Market Square

Whether they like it scorching hot or a bit more mild, the 12th Annual St. Catharines Chili Cookoff will offer something for all enthusiasts of this spicy dish.

The event, which is being held as a fundraiser for Community Care, will be offering 13 different recipes crafted by 11 chili vendors, and the public will have a chance sample them and vote for their favourite. A panel of guest judges will also rate them and awards will be presented in several categories.

The chefs will be serving up samples of their chili, and whichever one receives the most votes from the public will receive the designation of “People’s Choice”. The panel of judges will determine who will walk away with the title of best booth, most enthusiastic vendor and best overall. The winner in each of the categories will receive an award as well as bragging rights.

Tickets for the event will be sold at the door at a price of $10 each, and the funds raised will be used by Community Care to help it fund its various programs and other initiatives. The organizers noted that they wished to express their thanks to Sally McGarr Realty, which is this year’s title sponsor. A company that crafts corporate gifts will be able to supply awards that can be given to the winners of an event like this.

This spicy occasion will be taking place on March 2 in Market Square. More details have been posted on the Community Care website.
