The 4th annual Turkeys on the Trail marathon is taking place next month in Edmonton. It is a fundraiser for the Edmonton Food Bank.

There are four different races that will be part of this event: the 1K kids’ race, a 5K walk/run, a 10K run, and a 25K trail run. The entry fee is a frozen turkey or ham, nonperishable foods, or a monetary donation to the food bank. All entrants will receive a swag bag filled with sponsors products and information and finishers’ awards.

After the race, there will be a mini Christmas market where local vendors will be selling items suitable for gift giving, a showcase of local businesses and community groups, food and drink for purchase, and live entertainment. There will also be a raffle and several prize drawings.

The Edmonton Food Bank provides approximately 21,000 hampers a month in the city including, the annual Christmas hamper. Organizers hope to be able to fill a large number of those hampers from marathon participants.

Edmonton print shops often provide items such as bibs and T-shirts to marathon participants.

The Turkeys on the Trail marathon will be held at the A. C. T. Recreation Centre in Runole Park on December 15 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. For the most current information about this event, call 780-977-1911.
