Milton residents invited to lend homeless helping hand

January 31, 2017 by

Milton will be marking the cold days of winter with an event that will both raise funds and draw attention to the issue of homeless people in the community.

The public is asked to join together with friends and family in bundling up in their warmest clothes and walking, running or rolling along the 2, 5 or 10 kilometer route. At the end of the event, the participants will gather together to celebrate their efforts and enjoy hot drinks, hot soup and an assortment of sweets. Flyers can be placed throughout the community to promote an event like this to the public.

Monies raised through the walk will be used to help support Milton Transitional Housing in its efforts to get people off of the street and into warm, safe and affordable housing. It provides both counseling and bridge accommodations and well as a range of other supports and services.

The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser has been planned for February 25th at 4:00 pm, with the walk itself setting out at 5:15. The staging area for both the start and finish will be the Milton Sports Centre, and the registration fee has been set at $25.00 each.

Anyone who is interested in registering to lend a helping hand to Milton’s homeless are invited to visit Milton Transitional Housing’s website for further details.
