Medicine Hat College to hold seminar on intellectual property

November 8, 2018 by

Artists and businesspeople in the Medicine Hat area who are looking to understand just how intellectual property law works are in luck, as the local college will be hosting a special seminar on the topic later this month.

Labelled “Entrepreneurs, Investors, Creatives, & Intellectual Property”, the talk will be hosted by Medicine Hat College’s Entrepreneur Development Centre, and cover IP laws from the general to the specific.

Featured presenters include John Stroh from AB Innovates, craft beer brewer Warren Vancuren, Marcus Campbell of Terralta Inc., and MHC instructor Merl Mayer. Each presenter will touch on topics like ‘Patenting 101’, ‘Writing and Publishing Academic Work’, and ‘Renewable Energy’. The wide-ranging nature of the panel is meant to reflect the myriad implementations of intellectual property law. Free appetizers and drinks will be available throughout the event.

Intellectual property is of primary interest to people like inventors, artists and authors, but may be relevant to a wide range of businesses when it comes to issues like logo design or other forms of graphic design. The Entrepreneur Development Centre is an initiative of MHC to help its students and alumni start their own businesses. Past events include competitions for start-up pitches, and seminars on business tax laws and other financial basics.

The seminar will take place at MHC’s c r a v e Pub on the evening of November 22.
