Markham’s males asked to walk a mile to end domestic violence

October 8, 2018 by

Markham’s males have been issued a challenge that will both raise awareness about domestic violence and help to collect funds for Yellow Brick House.

Those who participate in this year’s ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event will don high heels, flats, sandals or other women’s footwear and wobble along for one mile. A fundraising goal of $60,000 has been set, and the organizers noted that every bit makes a difference.

The participants in this event are asked to bring along the shoes, boots or sandals that they wish to wear for the walk, and all ages are welcome. Local companies are invited to get involved in the day by acting as a sponsor or putting together a team to take part. Those that do will receive a variety of benefits, including having the name and branding seen by a wide audience and also having them included in the social media postings about the fundraiser.

Yellow Brick House will use the monies raised in a variety of ways. It will be utilized in meeting the expenses of operating its emergency shelters, as well as its crisis line, public education programming and initiatives that offer counseling and other services in the community. Poster printing can help to make sure that an event like this makes a big impact by ensuring that as many people as possible know about it, as well as when and where it will be taking place.

Markham’s Walk a Mile in her Shoes fundraiser will be hitting the pavement on November 25. The staging area will be at 5000 Hwy 7.
