Markham invited to hop aboard the Big Bike

April 10, 2018 by

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s big Bike can often be seen out and about during the warmer months. This spring, it will be rolling in to the Markham area to raise both awareness about heart disease and stroke and funds to help fight them.

Local businesses and organizations can book time on the bike, which can hold up to 30 riders. Each group will pedal for about 3.5 km, and as they go, they can wave to passersby and simply have fun.

The timeframe that will be allotted to each set of riders is approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and they are encouraged to arrive several minutes ahead of time so that a group photo can be taken and donations can be handed in. There will also be warmup games before setting out. Each company or organization that goes for a rise will be invited to display their name on the front of the bike, and banner printing can be used to produce items for this. Each team able to raise at least $5,000 in donations will be awarded a Big Bike Medal to thank them for their efforts.

The Big Bike is scheduled to be in Unionville on May 24, and everyone is welcome join in the fun. Further details about the occasion can be found on the City of Markham website.
