Markham Chinese community rings in another New Year

There are two upcoming celebrations taking place in Markham to help ring in the Year of the Dog.

The first is a family-friendly celebration at the Milliken Mills Branch of Markham Public Library on February 17 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. It will be two hours of craft making, traditional games and fun for people of all ages. Call 905-513-7977 to learn more about this free event.

A week later, the 34th Chinese New Year’s Ball is being held. A presentation of the Hong Kong – Canada Business Association, this is a formal event for those over the age of 19. The evening will start off with a champagne and dim sum reception. There will also be Chinese games to play, followed by an East/West fusion sit-down dinner. Entertainment will be provided by the Michael Vierira Band and the Lion Dance will also be performed. Attendees can also enjoy a silent auction and several prize drawings.

Markham stationery printing firms are often asked to provide printed invitations for events such as the ball.

The Chinese New Year’s Ball will be held at Le Parc in Thornhill on February 24 from 6:00 PM to midnight. Tickets are $200 each, although prices will go up after next Wednesday, January 24. For the latest information, call the Hong Kong – Canada Business Association at 416-366-2642.
