London to host housing conference

With the cost of housing in Ontario frequently in the news, a London conference will look to find solutions this February.

The event, called ‘Housing: Let’s Get Into It!’ will be a gathering of professionals involved with housing on both the municipal and provincial level, such as city planners and economic development officers. Jennifer Keesmaat, the former Chief Planner for Toronto, as well as a recent mayoral candidate for that city, will serve as a keynote speaker.

The one-day conference will be held at the London Convention Centre on February 7. In addition to Keesmaat, there will be speeches from Ryan Berlin, director of Urban Futures; Graham Cubitt, the Director of Projects & Development at Indwell; and Lana Sim, the Manager of Human Resources at Toyota Boshoku Canada. In the afternoon, there will be a facilitated workshop assembled by SHS Consulting.

Educational professional events like this can often serve as an opportunity for networking for those in the relevant sector. Attendees may stop by a local print shop for another round of business card printing on their way to the Convention Centre. Ultimately, however, the goal is in the public interest: developing an action plan template for rural and small urban municipalities to develop a housing policy that benefits everyone.

The event is organised and presented by Oxford County – a small Ontario municipality.
