London introduces Cones for Kids

August 1, 2017 by

Select ice cream parlors in London will be participating in the Cones for Kids program.

The proceeds from each ice cream cone (or bowl) purchased at participating locations, from Saturday August 5 to Monday August 7, will be donated to The Lung Association in support of its Asthma Action Program.

The Lung Association provides funding for medical research for treatments and a cure for asthma. Contributions also deliver education about the disease and support to our local youth affected by asthma.

The Asthma Action Program provides educational brochures and signs to daycare centers, clubs and groups for teens, and schools throughout Canada.

Ontario has over 1.7 million residents living with asthma, including 340,000 under the age of 18. Over the last 20 years, asthma rates have more than quadrupled, with one in five children being diagnosed with the breathing disorder. Generally, the public is unaware that asthma is the primary cause of school absences and hospitalization in Ontario.

London vendors contributing to the Cones for Kids campaign include:

– RoliPoli at 484 Richmond Street

– Haven’s Ice Cream at 226 Piccadilly Street

– Marble Slab Creamery locations at 3039 Wonderland Road South, 573 Richmond Street and 50 North Centre Road

Children will be able to meet The Lung Association mascot, Alvi the Dragon, who will be on site at each of the vendors during the weekend.
