Inaugural festival brings literary stars to New Westminster

The New West Festival of Words is taking place next month for three days. It is a presentation of the Arts Council of New Westminster and the BC Writers Spring Writes Festival.

The festival will start off with a free meet and greet reception on April 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in the Boathouse Lounge at the Quay, complete with a cash bar. It will be followed by the Friday evening gala in the Hyack Room from 6:00 to 10:00 pm, presented by the Federation of BC Writers. Tickets are $25 each and there will be appearances by four well-known authors.

Over the three-day event, there will be workshops on topics such as poetry, writing powerful stories, and how to handle publicity and marketing. These will be held by authors such as Roberta Rich, Rob Taylor and Gail Anderson-Dargatz.

Other activities will include a write-in at the Network Hub, slam poetry reading and a free lunch.

No doubt this event will attract many writers from the New Westminster area. In order to spread the word about events like these, local printing companies often provide services such as flyer printing.

The New West Festival of Words will be held at various locations downtown from April 13 to 15. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Eventbrite page.
