Gala ball to bring back Regency glamour

May 17, 2018 by

The Pride and Prejudice Ball is taking place next month in Calgary.

The event is a tribute to the novel of the same name by Jane Austen. Guests are expected to dress in Regency-era costumes. This means that women must wear a full-length evening gown with covered shoulders and flat shoes, while men must wear a tailcoat. Cellphones and cameras are not allowed on the dance floor but there will be a professional photographer covering the event.

Guests will be treated to dinner and refreshments. They will also enjoy music, historic card games taught by experts and dancing to many traditional English dances. To help learn these dances and to prepare for the ball, guests planning to attend can sign up for five separate dance sessions for $20 each. These will be taught at the Kirby Centre and among the dances to be learned are The Spaniard and Charlotte’s Dilemma. There will also be a dance workshop taking place at 11:30 AM at the Kirby Centre on the day of the ball, which will cover four dances.

This event sells out quickly each year and organizers may invest in flyer printing services from a favorite Calgary printing company to spread the word.

The Pride and Prejudice Ball will be held at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel on June 9 from 5:30 to 10:30 PM. Tickets are $169 including dinner or $98 for the dance only. Visit the official website to learn more.
