Family winter nature programming at Downsview Park

January 4, 2018 by

Free outdoor nature connections are being offered for families during the month of January at Downsview Park.

All ages are welcome to join Downsview Park staff on Saturday, January 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for Campfire Cooking activity. Participants will meet up with park staff at the Discovery Centre, located at 70 Canuck Avenue. After a short hike, everyone will be able to warm up by the campfire. Park staff will share stories while guests cook garlic bread over the hot coals.

The second event will be held on Saturday, January 28, also from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and will feature Forest Games. Park staff will lead participants through the forest and share interesting facts about winter survival for both people and animals. Their new found knowledge will be tested during a variety of outdoor winter games and activities.

Downsview Park hosts activities, festivals and events throughout the year. Parks often use printing services to provide visitors with brochures and flyers describing upcoming events, hiking trails and other free family activities.

People of all ages are invited to attend these events, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As some of the activities take place on rough forest trails, strollers should not be used during the visit at the park. Animals should be kept at home, and participants are reminded to dress properly for wintery weather conditions.

Both of these nature connections are offered free of charge. Spaces are limited, so prior registration on the park website is recommended.
