Experience the future of Pow Wow at weekend festival

The Squamish Nation is hosting the 31st annual Youth Pow Wow in West Vancouver next month for three days.

The emcee for the event will be Francis James. It will feature a variety of youth dancers who will be performing the Men’s Grass Dance, the Outgoing Royalty Dance and the Potato Dance; they will be performed at various times throughout the day. Dancers are expected to come from both the United States and Canada. There will also be an outdoor competition dance open to everyone.

In addition to the dancing and contests, there will be Aboriginal arts and crafts offered for sale, which will likely include jewelry, clothing and fine arts. Vendor spaces are still available for $250 each.

There will also be barbecued salmon for sale, as well as drinks available for purchase.

The festival is open to the public and will likely attract people from all over the area including nearby North Vancouver. To help spread the word in the community, organizers may have invested in flyer printing services.

The Youth Pow Wow will be held at the Squamish Nation Elders Centre in West Vancouver from July 13 to 15. Tickets are $5 each. To find out more about this event, call Gloria Nahanee at 778-957-4703 or Jan Baker at 604-986-7414.
