Downsview Park to host annual Earth Day community celebration

April 4, 2018 by

Each year, Downsview Park has celebrated Earth Day with a variety of activities related to environmental awareness and stewardship, and 2018 will be no different.

The organizers have planned for a day of fun, and it is all being offered free of charge. They will be family friendly, and all ages are welcome.

Visitors to the park will be able to take part in a seed ball making workshop and there will also be demonstrations of birds of prey. Attendees can try their hands at making a batch of garlic-mustard pesto, and the kids can have their faces painted, take part in a family nature walk, campfire singalong and visit the urban farm. A plant sale has also been planned in the pop-up style garden centre so that the public can purchase something for their yard or balcony.

All ages will have a chance to take part in hands-on environmental stewardship by participating in litter pickup and removal of invasive species. Signage and other items for this type of function that can help guests to get the most from the day can be provided print shops in the local area.

April 22 has been selected to be the date for this day that will show some love to Downsview Park and its urban forest. Its website can be consulted by anyone who would like to find out more or RSVP to attend.
