Cultural festival is set to celebrate Colombia

July 8, 2018 by

The 10th annual Mississauga Latin Festival is taking place in the city on the last weekend of this month.

The festival organizers choose one country to highlight each year, and this year it is Colombia. There will be an art gallery presented by the Colombian Culture House featuring the works of international artists, arts and crafts items for sale including handmade jewelry and clothing and educational demonstrations. Several community organizations will also be providing information to the public about their programs and services.

Guests will have the opportunity to learn salsa dancing and a few words in the Spanish language. A food court will be selling some traditional foods.

There will be a parade where participants will highlight the traditional costumes of their countries and showcase some traditional music forms.

A variety of artists will be performing both traditional and contemporary music, and cultural organizations will be demonstrating local dances.

A children’s play area will feature a variety of Latin-inspired games as well as some Spanish language instruction.

This popular festival attracts over 35,000 visitors each year. Organizers may work with a Mississauga printing services company to help advertise.

The Mississauga Latin Festival will be held at Celebration Square from July 28 to 29. Admission is free of charge. Contact Isabel Cuellar at 647-272-4354 for the most current information.
