The Puppet Power conference is taking place in Calgary for three days next month.

Presented by the WP Puppet Theatre and the Calgary Reggio Network Association, this is a conference on applied puppetry and is expected to attract artists, teachers, storytellers and other interested parties. This year’s theme is ‘Story’, and it is set to feature hands-on workshops, international speakers and panel discussions.

Some of the workshop topics include learning about the Linisikimm project and building a puppet lantern, light and shadow technologies, and scripting for visual theater. Among those leading the workshops are Mike Czuba of Dancing Monkey Laboratories, Juanita Dawn from Long Grass Studies and Bighetty Puppets. The cost of the workshops will range in price from $35 up to $80.

There will also be a dinner reception featuring a speaker from Reggio Children in Italy. Guests can choose to attend the dinner only, for which tickets are $80.

In addition, guests can attend the Dolly Wiggler Puppet Slam and a wrap-up party. Calgary print shops are often asked to provide products such as banners and signs to organizers of conferences to help showcase certain areas.

The Puppet Power Conference will be held at the University of Calgary from June 1 to 3. Full conference fees are $299. For the most current information, contact the WP Puppet Theatre at 403-228-3373.
