City of Surrey supports new Clayton Farmers’ Market

The City of Surrey has provided conditional approval for the new farmers’ market scheduled to open in Clayton this spring.

The Clayton Community Farmers’ Market will have room for over 40 vendors, including farmer produce, local artisans, crafters, bakers, and artists. To support home-based business in the area, product “re-sellers” will also be permitted at the market. Applications for vendors are currently being accepted.

Space will also be designated for local charities, providing an opportunity for representatives to connect with Clayton community residents.

Local businesses may also get involved in the market, by sponsoring free craft tables, live music events or the Family Fun Zone. As a sponsor, there may be an opportunity to distribute promotional products or flyers during the market.

Food trucks will also be welcome, with three already signed up, including Hunger Management, Tacofino and Roasted Revolution.

The new Farmers’ Market is being organized by area resident Sabrina Mehlhorn, who recognized the need for it in the community. The existing farmers’ markets, including venues in Surrey and Langley, are held during the working week, leaving many residents unable to attend.

The market has received conditional approval and a $1,000 Neighbourhood Enhancement Grant from the City of Surrey. It is scheduled to open on Sunday, May 13, and will be held in the Clayton Heights Secondary School parking lot on alternating Sundays.

Applications to become a vendor or a sponsor are available on the website.
