Celebrate the Caribbean in Edmonton

July 26, 2018 by

Cariwest is returning to Edmonton this summer for three days. It is a presentation of the Western Carnival Development Association.

The festival will kick off with a Friday night costume extravaganza beginning at 7:00 PM. It will also be where the King and Queen of the Bands are chosen.

The next day will feature a parade, which will travel down Jasper Avenue to 107th Street to Central Plaza. It will take place from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The parade will feature a variety of Mas Bands making great music and colorful costumes of all kinds.

The main part of the festival will be Caribbean Village. There will be Taste of the Caribbean food sampling, a rum garden and a variety of musical artists will be performed on the main stage. There will also be a marketplace selling many Caribbean-related items.

Later that evening will be the Island Rave at Union Hall from 10:00 PM to 2:30 AM. It will feature four DJs: Fyah Blazin, Drew Atlas, Marcus G and Jeff Jam. Tickets are $20 each.

Some of the bands may use a local Edmonton printing company to provide them with banner printing services.

Cariwest will be held at the Federal Plaza Building from August 10 to 11. Admission to most items is free of charge. For more information, call 780-421-7800.
