Burnaby musical event to support theatre scholarships

Align Entertainment will present the musical adaptation of Legally Blonde at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby in a few days.

The Broadway hit musical nominated for seven Tony Awards is based on the successful 2001 movie, ‘Legally Blonde’. This fun romantic comedy follows the quirky escapades of Elle Woods, as she dismisses Bel-Air princess and college sorority sister stereotypes to become a successful and talented Harvard Law graduate. The musical adaptation includes comedy song and dance numbers, and is family oriented.

A special Family Day Matinee has been scheduled for, Monday, February 12 at 2:00 PM, and will include preshow activities like face painting and colouring for the children in attendance. Sponsors of this event will have exhibits set up and may distribute complimentary promotional products and brochures. Hot dogs will be on sale from 12:00 to 1:15 PM in the lobby and courtyard adjoining the theatre. Tickets for this special day usually sell out quickly at the reduced rate of $15, with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to the Michael J. Fox Theatre Scholarship.

The Michael J. Fox Family Visual and Performing Arts Scholarships have granted $214,000 to nearly 100 students from the Burnaby School District. The scholarship assists students who are looking to follow careers in the performing arts.

The musical will be presented daily from February 2 to 17, at the Michael J. Fox Theatre located at 7373 Macpherson Avenue in Burnaby. Regular tickets range in price from $27 to $39. Tickets can be purchased from the website.
