Annual festival celebrates much-loved novel

The Pride and Prejudice Ball is taking place next month in Edmonton. This popular event celebrates the novel by Jane Austen.

Leading up to the ball, there will be three sessions of dance lessons on November 2, 9, and 16. Guests will learn English Country Dance. There will also be a refresher workshop on the morning of the ball.

Guests are encouraged to dress in Regency or Napoleonic costume. For the ladies, this means wearing a full-length gown with an empire waist and flat shoes. For men, a top coat, white shirt and breeches are recommended; military dress is also acceptable.

There will a full dinner, as well as non-alcoholic drinks such as syllabub (a cream based drink) and mulled apple cider. There will be a cash bar available to guests.

The evening will continue with musical entertainment, card games and dancing.

All-inclusive tickets are $220 each and include dinner, dance lessons, the workshop, two drinks and a professional photograph; it costs $160 for the ball and dinner. It costs $100 for dancing, cards, music and drinks, while dance lessons cost $60.
