Annual convention celebrates popular culture

The 5th annual London Comic Con is taking place next month for three days.

The convention is a celebration of popular culture in comics, film and television, which attracts thousands of fans every year.

It features guest stars from movies and TV, panel discussions, autograph sessions and photo opportunities. Among the stars who will be appearing at this year’s convention are Marina Sirtis from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, Ted Arimi who appeared in ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’, and James Marsters of ‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’. Fans will have the chance to get up close and personal with all of the stars.

There will be many fans dressed up for cosplay (costumes) as well as workshops on such topics as make-up and costume making and a Kids Activity Zone that is set to feature superheroes, puppet shows and craft activities. Other activities include wrestling and Fan Fiction: The Show.

As with all comic conventions, the dealers’ room will likely be one of the most popular areas. Vendors will be selling items like collectible comics, costumes and photographs. There will also be an Artists’ Alley where fans can purchase handmade items such as paintings and jewelry.

London poster printing firms are often asked to help advertise events like this in the city.

The London Comic Con will be held at the Western Fair District from October 26 to 28. Tickets are $26 on Friday and Sunday and $35 on Saturday, or a three-day pass is $65. Call 519-777-2908 for the latest information.
