Winnipeg invited to spring into new jeans

Whether they are an expert with a needle and thread or are new to the hobby, residents of Winnipeg will soon be able to take part in a class that will allow them to improve their sewing skills by making their very own pair of denim jeans.

The instructors in the Winnipeg Sews Jeans event will provide step-by-step instruction in the art of making this popular style of pants. It will be fast-paced, and at the end of the daylong workshop, the goal will be for all the students to have a pair of jeans they will have made on their own.

Before they come to the class, those who register are asked to do some research and decide which style they prefer. They can also purchase their fabric, notions and other supplies. The instructors will teach techniques such as top stitching, bias binding, French seams and serging, and buttonholing will also be included. The ticket price includes thread, scissors, needles and also a catered lunch. A company that produces letterheads can also supply printed instruction sheets so that the students in a class like this can keep on creating after it is over.

This workshop, which will see Winnipeg residents craft a new pairs of jeans for their spring wardrobe, will be offered on March 9. It is set to be hosted by the Norberry Glenlee Community Centre.
