Mississauga film screening to be autism friendly

October 8, 2018 by

Going to the movies can be a fun activity for any age, and Mississauga families that have a child on the autism spectrum have been invited to come to a screening of a holiday themed film that will be sensory friendly.

Children on the spectrum, as well as their parents, caregivers and siblings, will be able to enjoy watching ‘Dr Suess’ The Grinch 2018’, which will be shown in the Cineplex Cinemas Courtney Park. The group will have the theatre all to itself, and the atmosphere will be adapted so that it is autism friendly.

To help ensure that everyone who comes to the show enjoys a positive experience, there will be no trailers or commercials before the film begins, and the sound and lights will be adjusted as well. All ages are welcome, but parents are asked to be sure that they remain with their child(ren) throughout the activity.

Only a limited number of seats are available for this screening, and it can provide those who attend with an opportunity to practice their social skills in a supportive environment. Lanyards, promotional pens, T-shirts, and other swag for an event like this can be selected from a local printer, which will have many options to choose from.

The admission fee to take part in this sensory friendly experience is $3.75. The plan is for the film to be shown starting at 10:00 am on November 17.
