Community music lecture offered in Milton

January 12, 2018 by

As part of the Laurier Milton Lecture Series, the lecture that is planned for the month of February will be about ‘Sharing Love Through Community Music’.

The 2017-2018 lecture series is the ninth annual event organized by the Wilfrid Laurier University in partnership with the Town of Milton and the Milton Public Library. Running from October 2017 to May 2018, each month features a free lecture hosted by a university professor and held at the First Ontario Arts Centre in Milton. The lectures are free but registration is required as seating is limited.

The community music lecture will be presented by Brandon Leis, a professor in the Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University. Community music was first used by researchers in the United Kingdom as a method of creating positive change in a group of teens considered to be at risk. The lecture will include presentations from students from the University detailing the research that forms part of their undergraduate and master’s degree programs in the Music department.

Those who attend the lecture will also have an opportunity of ask Leis and the students questions about their work, and to participate in an interactive music activity. Printing services are often used to create handouts for lecture participants.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, February 14, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, at the First Ontario Arts Centre located at 1010 Main Street East in Milton. The event will be wheelchair accessible.

Registration for the lecture is available on the Town of Milton website.
