A Richmond community centre will be offering a series of seminars for young adults seeking employment within the region.

The Thompson Community Centre has announced the first session dates for a new series of workshops called ‘Get the Job’. The material covered has been chosen specifically to meet the needs of teens ages 13-19 years old, who will no doubt turn up with résumés and digital business cards at the ready.

The first session, called ‘How to Build a Résumé’, will be held on Wednesday, January 31 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Young adults will learn how to create a résumé that will impress future employers, using a helpful template provided during the workshop.

The second session will be held on Wednesday, February 21 from 4:15 to 5:15 PM, and is called ‘Resume Review’. Building on the first session, participants are asked to bring their résumé with them for evaluation and helpful tips from the staff.

The third session in the series is called, ‘Create a Professional Cover Letter’, and will be held on Wednesday, March 14 from 4:15 to 5:30 PM. Teens will learn how to structure the perfect cover letter, with helpful tips on what information should be included.

The final session will be held on Wednesday, April 18, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Called ‘Interview Prep and Confidence Building’, it will teach young adults how to answer common interview questions. Life skills such as confidence building will also be discussed.

The Thompson Community Centre is located at 5151 Granville Avenue. Registration is required, and can be arranged by emailing the Youth Coordinator, Chantelle Ingram, at cingram@richmond.ca.
