New shop showcases local art

The city of Thorold has welcomed a new shop dedicated to artisans from the Niagara region.

Rene Inman chose a piece of real estate on Front Street in Thorold to realize her ambition of opening an art boutique. Chapel Street Designs, located at 46B Front Street, offers art from across the region, including St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls.

A fellow artist and craft show aficionado, Inman’s first step was to invite her fellow artists to display their work in her store, with sales completed on a commission basis. So far, she has received only positive responses, and is proud to offer a wide variety of completed works in her shop. She explains:

“We have painters, photographers, stained glass, fused glass, a seamstress, woodworkers, we have a concrete artist, jewelry artist. I have a couple of more still to come in, a candlemaker and a potter.”

Chapel Street Designs will also offer workshops on various art techniques. Calendars and brochures may be available for those interested in attending. An acrylic painting seminar will be held on Saturday, December 2, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. It will be hosted by Helen Michllik, with the cost of $40 including all the supplies needed to participate. Those wishing to attend should register with Inman through the store’s website or contact her through Facebook.

Inman hopes the new store will go a long way in supporting local artists and their work, by uniting the art scene in the Niagara region.
