Winnipeg residents invited to put their outdoor skills to the test

Winnipeg residents who think they are well versed in the art of camping and those who are “tenderfeet” alike are invited to put their skills to the test while raising money to help kids experience camping for themselves.

Those who participate in The Great Manitoba Portage will portage a canoe over the Esplanade Riel Bridge, build a campfire and make their own s’mores in a friendly competition to see who can win the race. Monies raised will be used to help support The Sunshine Fund, which has been helping local children for over 80 years.

The event is open to everyone, no matter how much or how little camping experience they may have. According to the organizers, the goal is for everyone to have a good time, and all ages are welcome to take part. Prizes will be awarded to the team that shows the most spirit, raises the most funds, places first in its category and also the camp that is able to collect the most money. A printer can use graphic design to craft awards and other items for use during an event such as this.

The Great Manitoba Portage, which has been organized by the Manitoba Camping Association, will be held on May 27th at The Forks in Winnipeg. More information can be found by visiting its Facebook page.
