Volunteers Needed for Community Food Drive

The 20th annual Community Food Drive for Ancaster gets underway in February, and 300-400 volunteers are needed to advertise and operate the event.

Last year, the Food Drive reached a new milestone. The amount of donations collected since the Food Drive began passed the one million mark, weighing in at 1,044,900 pounds. Organizers are hoping that this year will equal or surpass the record-breaking total of 79,000 pounds of food collected in 2011.

The Organizers need volunteers to deliver flyers throughout the Print company in Hamilton printing services Hamilton region. If you can donate some time on Saturday, February 18, 2012, between 9 am – 11 am, to deliver the flyers made by a local Print company in printing company printing services printing company or canvas door-to-door, then contact Jan Lucas at ancastercommunityfooddrive@gmail.com. Volunteers should be 14 years of age or older unless they are accompanied by an adult. Past years have had volunteers ranging from 3 to 99 years old.

One week later, on Saturday, February 25, 2012, more volunteers are needed to collect and pack the donations between 9 am – 2 pm. Donations will be collected from schools and door-to-door, and then sorted and packed at St. John’s Anglican Church, 37 Halston Street, Ancaster. The following Monday, volunteers are urgently needed to load the donations into the vans of eight local charities – Neighbour to Neighbour, The Salvation Army, Greater Hamilton Food Share, St. Matthew’s House, Mission Services of Hamilton, Wesley Urban Ministries, Good Shepherd Centre, and Ancaster Community Services & Information.

Cash donations to the Community Food Drive for Ancaster are also welcome.
