Time to show some love to Leduc’s birds

May 26, 2017 by

This spring, Leduc birders have been asked to lend their feathered friends a helping hand by taking part in the city’s Spring Bird Count.

The activity, which can be enjoyed by young and old alike, will give those who participate a chance to enjoy spending time outdoors while they learn more about local wildlife. Each person who takes part is asked to spend anything from half an hour to the whole week watching birds and recording the ones that they see. To do this, they can either use the provided tally sheet online, or they can download and print it so they have a paper version.

Once they have completed the count, the birders are asked to then return their completed tally sheets to ecosmart@leduc.ca no later than June 17. Each person who does so will have their name entered into a draw to win both bird seed and a feeder. The information gathered will be used to monitor the numbers of birds, the different species and also migration patterns and other factors. Poster printing can be used to craft promotional materials for an event such as this that can be placed throughout the local area.

The Leduc Spring Bird Count has been planned from June 4 to 10, and more details have been provided on the community’s website.
