Sustainable living in Vancouver
April 7, 2012 by Martin
The 6th annual EPIC: the Sustainable Living Expo will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from May 11-13. Tickets are $15 or $12 for seniors and students; children 12 and under will be admitted free. Multi-day tickets are $23, or $12 for seniors and students.
The expo is presented by the Globe Foundation. It will feature over 300 exhibitors selling and showcasing products such as disposable plates made from pressed palm leaves, recycled seat belts, local organic beer and wine, fair trade chocolate and coffee, and handbags made from recycled materials. In addition there will be an eco-friendly fashion show, west coast art, a wedding showcase, and the chance to test drive a Toyota or a Lexus. There will also be a Kid Zone featuring hands on demonstrations of organic foods and farming.
For those over 19, an Epicurian Corner featuring gourmet foods and drinks, with an extra admission price, and the Stanley Park Brewery Tasting Lounge will be hard to miss attractions. The expo will also feature live entertainment, seminars, food demonstrations, contests, and raffles. Local Vancouver-area companies will be providing the prizes for those raffles and local printing companies will be helping to provide the tickets. Many print companies now work hard to use paper from sustainable resources wherever possible.
Many want to be kinder to the environment and to use products that do not, in any way, hurt the people who manufacture those products. Many people nowadays prefer that the products they buy are made ethically, and the people who make them are able to earn a living wage. All products offered at the expo will live up to these standards.
