Street banners add colour and interest in Dartmouth
July 8, 2011 by Martin
Street banners have become popular in many Canadian cities. They help to highlight various districts, businesses or causes. Firms who provide banner printing services are often called upon to provide those products to cities and businesses.
The Halifax Regional Municipality Banner program in
Dartmouth was expanded in 2010 to allow for new banners in the downtown business district. These banners are used to highlight the positive aspects of the downtown area such as shopping, restaurants, local attractions and the area itself. Councillor Gloria McCluskey said that
“making our downtown an enjoyable place to visit is key to our economic growth,”
while Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission Chair George Clark said that the banner program
“highlights our districts unique character.”
No matter which city you visit, those with a banner program feel that street banners are good for business. There really are no negative aspects of street banners; they help to beautify a neighbourhood by adding splashes of colour to the city streets, they can highlight a cause that many in the city are unaware of, they can mark off the boundaries of where a special event is being held, they can highlight the great shopping and dining available in the area and they can highlight a local business district.
Design is also important in a good banner, you want something that will get right to the point in as few words as possible and you want it to appeal to the eye of those who will see it. A good banner can go a long way in improving the look of a city street.
