Newmarket takes the time to recognize volunteers

February 24, 2017 by

Volunteers play a major role in the community of Newmarket, and the town has asked its residents to nominate individuals who give their time to others for a special award.

The town has created several different categories, including volunteer service, volunteer program leader, sponsor/contributor awards, and citizen of the year. There is also a group for youth, coaches and those who give the environment a helping hand. To make it as easy as possible for people to submit names to the program, a form has been created where the nominator can include information about the individual and why they feel they deserve to be recognized. It also explains the criteria that must be met if the person is to be selected.

The awards will be presented to the winners during a gala evening which will be held on April 25 in the Community Centre and Lions Hall, located at 200 Doug Duncan Drive. Entry will be by invitation only, and all of the winners will be invited to participate. A printer that crafts customized corporate gifts will be able to craft personalized awards for each recipient that will be recognized during an event like this.

The deadline for nomination submissions is March 25. They can be submitted in person or mailed to the town’s award committee. The address, along with additional information and the forms, can be found on Newmarket’s website.
