New Westminster to bid farewell to the year in New Orleans style

December 31, 2016 by

With 2016 coming to a close, a New Westminster event will offer a way of saying goodbye to the past and hello to the future in an atmosphere of fun and reflection.

During the New Orleans Jazz Funeral for the Year 2016, people will be able to join with others in bidding a fond, or even not so fond, farewell to 2016. They will have an opportunity to lay down their burdens in a miniature casket to the Louisiana style tunes of The Creole Jazz Band. This will then be buried as a symbolic way of letting go of the past.

At the end of the event, tea will be served, and there will be time for socializing with the other attendees. Wide format printing can be used to craft banners and other decorations for an event like this.

Last year, the even proved to be so popular that this year, the organizers had to find a larger venue. It will be held in the Mount Zion Lutheran Church, which is located at 930 Cumberland Street. Everyone is welcome, and there is no charge to participate.

The ‘Funeral’ will be held on January 1st from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm. More information can be obtained by visiting the New Westminster Record’s website.
