Hundreds expected to take the plunge in Oakville

Oakville residents will be starting off the New Year with a dip into the icy waters of Lake Ontario, all in support of those who have no clean water to drink.

Hundreds of intrepid bathers are expected to take the plunge while they are cheered on by thousands of spectators. Along with the chilly swim, there will be live music and other entertainment to enjoy, and the organizers have planned for it to be a fun time for all.

Those who plan on being a ‘dipper’ are encouraged to come out dressed for the occasion in a funny costume, as there will be prizes awarded for the best ones, and the winners may even have a chance to see themselves on the evening news.

Monies raised through the event will be used to help support efforts to provide clean drinking water to people living in developing countries. Banners can be used to help build an even more festive air to an event like this.

The Oakville Polar Bear Dip will take place on January 1, with registration and entertainment starting at 12:30 pm. The dip itself will take place at 2:00 pm sharp, so anyone who wants to participate is asked to ensure that they are on time.

Further details about this chilly way to ring in 2017 can be found on the Visit Oakville website.
