Groundhog Day fun planned for Woodstock

January 22, 2017 by

Groundhog Day will soon be here, and Woodstock will once again be hosting a morning of activities to celebrate the occasion.

The morning will kick off with a breakfast of pancakes and sausages, and after people have enjoyed their meal, they can watch for Woodstock’s own furry weather man, Charlie the groundhog, to emerge from his burrow. According to tradition, if he sees his shadow, winter will last another six weeks, while if he doesn’t, there will be an early spring.

After Charlie has made his prediction, the fun will keep on going with a chili cookoff, where chefs from local eateries can prepare their best version of this spicy dish. The judges will select their favorites in different categories, with the winners earning bragging rights for their contribution. A printer that produces customized corporate gifts can create personalized awards for each of the winners of a competition like this.

The Chilly Charlie Groundhog Day celebration has been planned for February 2nd, with the breakfast running from 7:30 am until 9:00 am. Charlie will be making his forecast at 8:10 am, and the Chilli Cookoff will start at 11:30 am. Tickets for the breakfast are $3.00 each, while those for the cook off are $12.00 at the door. All the events will happen in Woodstock’s South Gate Centre, and additional information is available on its website.
